Wow。 Very different to what I was expecting but still very good。 I was drawn in until the very end。

This was my first time reading The Dead Zone and I can’t believe that I almost didn’t read this book at all。 I must confess that I’m guilty of judging a book (not by its cover but) by its title。 That is the reason why I never looked at this book before now。 It’s one of his greatest though。 Please pick this one up。 It really is a must。 I was so close to rating this 5 stars but I must be honest that the politics really lost me in this one。 Politics isn’t something that I follow closely and so most This was my first time reading The Dead Zone and I can’t believe that I almost didn’t read this book at all。 I must confess that I’m guilty of judging a book (not by its cover but) by its title。 That is the reason why I never looked at this book before now。 It’s one of his greatest though。 Please pick this one up。 It really is a must。 I was so close to rating this 5 stars but I must be honest that the politics really lost me in this one。 Politics isn’t something that I follow closely and so most of the terminology was lost on me。 Then we have the character of Greg Stillson who I found to be a lot less interesting than the buildup would have us believe。 Push that to one side though, it’s a great story。 A sad story and frustrating at times, but we are talking about Stephen King。 If you’ve read a few of his books you’ll know as well as I do that dark and depressing is a big part of his Modus Operandi! 。。。more

I loved this book so much。 It made me cry and feel all my feels。 What an underrated King book。 I highly recommend this book if you are interested in reading Stephen King and don’t like horror novels。

3。5 stars! I knew nothing about this King book but it was pretty solid。 I definitely recommend the audiobook。 I think people who enjoyed 11/22/63 will enjoy this one。

I would give it 3。5 stars。There are some interesting parts and I especially liked the beginning。 Not a big fan of all the political facts, it was a bit too much and made the story less exciting。But the ending was alright。

Елена Козина

That was a complete disappointment。 An awkward and terribly boring mix of paranormal abilities and politics。 I could barely finish reading。 Даже уважаемый Кинг порой способен разочаровать。 Эта книга — какая-то несуразная и жутко скучная смесь паранормальных способностей и политики。 Еле дочитала。

I really enjoyed reading this one。 The chapters carry you from one to the next one with ease。 Likeable main character and very believable progression of event。 The reason this isn't a 5 star book is the third act where things do feel a bit predictable and things fell apart for me。 Although the book manages to deliver surprises at the end, the direction it took wasn't my favourite。 A very good but flawed book。 I really enjoyed reading this one。 The chapters carry you from one to the next one with ease。 Likeable main character and very believable progression of event。 The reason this isn't a 5 star book is the third act where things do feel a bit predictable and things fell apart for me。 Although the book manages to deliver surprises at the end, the direction it took wasn't my favourite。 A very good but flawed book。 。。。more

Then my interest died down a bit, however it was still great。 The plot was consistently something that interested me since the base of the entire book is about morals。 The book follows Johnny Smith, of those books where I got through the first half really quickly, and the plot really interested me。 Then my interest died down a bit, however it was still great。 The plot was consistently something that interested me since the base of the entire book is about morals。 The book follows Johnny Smith, who as a kid fell hard whilst ice skating。 He then experienced some sort of concussion, and also a vision。 He later became a teacher and started dating one of his coworkers, Sarah。 On one of their dates, he decided to scare her with a mask that made half of his face look very dark, and this mask was mentioned continuously throughout the entire book。 They then went to a fair, where Johnny played the Wheel of fortune。 He won every time, and to Sarah, he was in a trance when he did so。 His face resembled the mask he had worn earlier on that date to scare her。 Later, Johnny was involved in a car crash, where he got very badly injured。 He went into a four and a half year coma, and when he came out of it he started to have visions when he touched other people。 For example, whilst touching his physical therapist he saw a vision of her house burning down。 Also, I should mention that his mom was a very religious woman, to the point where she went crazy。 on her deathbed, she told Johnny that his gift of seeing into other peoples futures was a gift from God and that he had to fulfil his task。 There was much talk about Johnny's gift in the press, and people contacted him in hopes of him reading their future, or for him to work for them。 A lot of people were still very sceptical about whether or not Johnny was a bluff。 Johnny also helped the cops in a town to find a man who had raped and strangled girls, also a couple of women。 He did so by touching the place where the man, Frank Dodd, last murdered a girl。 He then got a vision of Frank Dodd's life and found out that he was the guilty one。 After this, he also helped tutor a boy called Chuck, who was a high school boy who had a hard time reading。 He did so successfully, mostly with the help of his skills as a former teacher, but he also used his powers in some ways to understand the boy。 Later, when Chuck graduated, Johnny got a vision that showed that the place where Chuck's high school where going to have their graduation party was going to burn down the night of the party and told CHuck's dad so。 the managed to get half of the party to go to Chuck's house instead, for the sake of calming Johnny down。 It ended up being true。 Throughout the book, we also read about a man called Greg Stillson, who for example abused a dog, and in other ways used violence to get his way。 He threatened a boy, who was a troublemaker, by cutting him, but also verbally abused him。 He also told the boy that he had to help him in the future when he needed it。 Greg was involved in politics and started to climb his way up。 He became a congressman, buy threatening people。 Johnny saw this man on the tv and got a weird feeling about him。 He thereafter went to one of his meet-and-greets, where he shook hand with Greg。 He then got a vision that showed some of the things that Greg had done, and that he was going to be the president one day。 Johnny then became obsessed with Greg, and after thinking a lot about it he decided that he had to assassinate him。 He bought a gun and went to one of his meet-and-greets again, where he hid on a balcony。 He missed his shoots, but Greg used a kid as a shield and a guy took a picture of that。 Johnny got shot and fell from the balcony。 He touched Greg one last time and then saw that he had completed his task。 Also, a while before this he had been told that he did not have much time left to live, because of a brain tumour。 That tumour was at the part of the brain that he called "The dead zone", which stored the thing he could not see during his visions。 Greg's downfall was that picture of him using a kid as a shield since people did not want that kind of man for a president。 That's some of the most important parts of this book that I can remember。 I really enjoyed this book, especially how King gives time to get to know the characters。 Something that I liked a lot was the hints of where to story was going, for example, the use of the mask。 It was introduced at the start of the book and was good foreshadowing。 I really liked reading about such a complex dilemma, him having the power to see the future, to some extent, but not knowing whether or not to interfere with it。 。。。more

At least it isn’t goryAs you would expect, great character development, great storytelling, great vocabulary, hard to put down… pretty much everything you want from a novel。 The ending was not satisfying for me, however。 Too many loose ends around the politician。 Readers (at least this reader) likes loose ends tied up。 At least the blood and guts was kept to a minimum。

Good。 I remember the show when I was younger and never knew King wrote it。。 Enjoyed it。

All I can say is。。。。 wow。 I’ve read my fair share of Stephen king, and he is absolutely one of my all time favorite authors, but this one blew me away。 I was hooked from page 1 until the very end。 The emotions I felt during this book were absolutely INSANE。 How had I never read this one before, and why isn’t it one of his most popular? If you’re debating reading this, READ IT。 (:

•I kinda hate-read this one for whatever reason。 Still entertained enough to give it 3 stars •Tabitha gave him the thumbs up on the “douching to combat horniness” detail? 🙄• I wonder what happened to King to make him write about nurses with such general disdain。 Repeated detail in many of his books that nurses are lazy bitches。 •also, paraphrasing but “most fat woman have grating and shrill voices” gotcha

Susan

Re-read this one after decades - it definitely held up。 Thank you Uncle Steve!

“Tutti noi facciamo quel che possiamo e dobbiamo accontentarci。。。 e se non ci basta, dobbiamo rassegnarci。 Niente è perduto per sempre。 Niente che non possa essere ritrovato”Basta questo per riassumere il pensiero che ho su questo libro。Grazie King per questo capolavoro。

Na jedného človeka až príliš veľa nešťastia。 V tom je King kráľ。 Nechať trpieť svoje postavy až do konca。 Aspoň že ich nechá umrieť。

I read the ebook while listening to the audiobook (narrated by James Franco) with my boyfriend。 The narration was acceptable, but I have heard better audiobook narrators。 Franco's Polish doctor and Vietnamese groundskeeper have the same, or strangely similar, voice/accent。We're going through King's work in order, and this wasn't my favorite。 It follows Johnny Smith, a young man who shows an uncanny knack for the carnival roulette wheel。The beginning, which was interesting, gave the promise of a I read the ebook while listening to the audiobook (narrated by James Franco) with my boyfriend。 The narration was acceptable, but I have heard better audiobook narrators。 Franco's Polish doctor and Vietnamese groundskeeper have the same, or strangely similar, voice/accent。We're going through King's work in order, and this wasn't my favorite。 It follows Johnny Smith, a young man who shows an uncanny knack for the carnival roulette wheel。The beginning, which was interesting, gave the promise of a story that just wasn't there。 Themes that seemed important, such as pressing luck and what is meant to be, were seemingly dropped partway through。 The plot is also disjointed, and you can see why a TV show about a guy solving random crimes in different episodes would be made from this。I don't like going into books knowing too much, and I didn't expect the political focus coming。 While I am interested in politics, there is something mundane about Greg Stillson after a Trump presidency。 In 2021, this book is just a reminder of how it felt to exist the last four years。I'll also say that I was a bit taken aback by the ending。 I guess it had been foreshadowed, but I still had trouble buying the main character's actions, no matter how many ordered lists he made。 Strangely, my favorite part of the book other the beginning was everything involving the Chatsworth family--especially the father, Roger, who often surprised me--even though they were kind of a side plot。There are several reminders of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes。 Carnivals and lightning-rod salesmen FTW! 。。。more

If I had known anything about this novel before I started reading it, I would have waited a few years to put some distance between my heart and the last four or five years of the awful, hateful, divisive experience of being a citizen in Trump's America。 A lot of this book is interesting, and classic Stephen King, but the Greg Stillson political bits are fresh salt in some wounds that are still very raw。 It's eerie, really, how accurately our Uncle Stevie predicted the future here are a book abou If I had known anything about this novel before I started reading it, I would have waited a few years to put some distance between my heart and the last four or five years of the awful, hateful, divisive experience of being a citizen in Trump's America。 A lot of this book is interesting, and classic Stephen King, but the Greg Stillson political bits are fresh salt in some wounds that are still very raw。 It's eerie, really, how accurately our Uncle Stevie predicted the future here are a book about predicting the future。 。。。more

"I guess I was running away from Greg Stillson and the thing I am supposed to do。 Like Elijah hiding in his cave or Jonah, who ended up in the fish's belly。 I thought I would just wait and see, you know。 Wait and see if the preconditions for such a horrible future began to come into place。" I can't believe I waited this long to read this fantastic novel。 A tragic love story, much like that of 11/22/63。 Top 10 King for me, no question about it。 5/5。 "I guess I was running away from Greg Stillson and the thing I am supposed to do。 Like Elijah hiding in his cave or Jonah, who ended up in the fish's belly。 I thought I would just wait and see, you know。 Wait and see if the preconditions for such a horrible future began to come into place。" I can't believe I waited this long to read this fantastic novel。 A tragic love story, much like that of 11/22/63。 Top 10 King for me, no question about it。 5/5。 。。。more
